dralon® X is a polyacrylonitrile fiber (PAN fiber).
It is produced by dry spinning.
The production process is divided into four stages:
1) Polymerisation
Acrylonitrile (ACN) is polymerised with other monomers (e.g. with a dyeing additive) to produce polyacrylonitrile (PAN).
2) Dissolving
After washing and drying, the white PAN powder is stirred into dimethylformamide (DMF) and heated until it dissolves. The solution is then filtered.
3) Spinning
The solution is extruded through spinnerets, producing spinning material. The solvent (DMF*) is evaporated from the solution using hot air during spinning (dry spinning process). It is then distilled and rused.
4) Aftertreatment
At the aftertreatment stage the spinning material is washed, drawn, crimped, dried and lubricated. At this stage the characteristics properties, e.g. tenacity, elongation, titre, volume, handle, etc. are given to either staple fibre or tow.
